What I love most about film

When I was little and would watch movies I didn’t think about any of the behind the scenes or

technical aspects of the film. It was all about the story and how it made me feel.

It wasn’t until I saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that that changed. When I watched

that movie I was obsessed with the acting that the kid actors did. It made me want to be an

actor. For years I harboured a desire to be that person that people saw on the screen but I was

so scared that I would never be able to do that.

I let my lack of confidence and my insecurities hold me back for years until it got to a breaking

point. I finally decided that I wouldn’t be happy until I had at least tried acting. So I did, and I’ve

been doing it ever since and love every minute of it.

As I started being on more productions and commercials as an actor I started to finally pay

attention to all the behind the scenes and technically things that were happening around me. It

gave me more of an appreciation for film as I delved deeper into the process of filmmaking as a

Whole.

I had been acting and unofficially learning about film for years before I finally decided to go even

deeper and go to film school. I decided to go to OCCC’s Digital Cinema Production program

because I had been hearing about it on sets for years.

During my time at OCCC I learned even more about the process of filmmaking and expanded

not only my knowledge but my contacts as well. I was able to take multiple classes on film from

screenwriting to editing. I was also able to experience different jobs in film from Script

Supervisor up to Director of Photography and everywhere in-between. I learned the jobs that I

loved doing and the ones that I found out just were not for me.

Through all of my experiences from acting through film school the thing that I love the most

about film that has never changed is that filmmaking is all about teamwork. In film we have so

many different jobs in development, pre-production, production, and post-production that we all

have to work together to create something that is bigger than all of us.

There is a reason there is the saying “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” and it could not be

more true for film!
